So sánh hơn, nhất, bằng, gấp nhiều lần; that of/those of; whereas/while; respectively — viết Task 1 chính xác.
Mục tiêu
Em so sánh chính xác các nhóm số liệu trên biểu đồ, bảng, biểu đồ tròn. Em tránh lỗi so sánh khập khiễng và dùng đúng từ chỉ mức độ chênh lệch.
Kiến thức trọng tâm
So sánh hơn: higher/lower than, more/less/fewer than. So sánh nhất: the highest, the most popular, the second largest. So sánh bằng/gấp: as ... as, twice as many ... as, three times as large as, double/half that of. Mức chênh lệch: slightly, marginally (rất ít); considerably, significantly, much, far (nhiều). Tránh so sánh khập khiễng: The salary of doctors was higher than THAT OF nurses; prices in London were higher than THOSE in Paris. Nối ý tương phản: whereas, while; liệt kê theo thứ tự: 20% and 25% respectively. fewer + danh từ đếm được, less + không đếm được.
Ví dụ
Germany consumed the most energy of the five countries, whereas Portugal used the least. The proportion of women in part-time work was twice as high as that of men. Spain and Italy received 20% and 25% of visitors respectively. Compared with 2000, spending on health in 2020 was considerably higher.
Mẹo
Trong mỗi đoạn thân bài, gom các nhóm giống nhau rồi so sánh với nhóm khác biệt. Luôn kèm số liệu để chứng minh so sánh. Dùng "the figure for" để tránh lặp danh từ dài. Không nêu ý kiến hay khuyến nghị trong Task 1.
Lỗi hay gặp
So sánh khập khiễng: "The salary of doctors was higher than nurses". Dùng "more higher", "most largest". Nhầm fewer/less. "Two times more than" thay vì "twice as many as". Dùng "respectively" khi thứ tự không khớp.
